Lodge Reservation Form

Previous to the 1932 ground-breaking for this lodge, there was no building in Alaska suitable for the religious and laity to gather for spiritual retreats. With the initial securing of 5 acres from the government, and eventually with an act of the U.S. Congress allowing the Catholic Bishop to purchase a total of 46.5 acres (at $2.50 per acre), that need began to be filled. Henry Meyers and Peter Ludwig were contracted to cut the logs and build this "Retreat House," and by 1935 most of the work was completed. It wasn't until the early 1970's, however, before central heating was installed, and the lodge became open for year round use in 1986. This log building contains 10 bedrooms, 8 upstairs and 2 down, sleeping 22 people in beds, 3 bathrooms, a large conference/ living room- dining area with a rock fireplace-wood stove on one end, a kitchen, and a small chapel. It is scheduled throughout the year for a variety of overnight retreats, days of renewal, childrens summer camp, family gatherings, and government and business seminars. It is located within close view of the ocean with a beach that is conducive for children and adults to enjoy, and it has a view of the Inside Passage Pacific Waters just a stone's throw away. In addition, it has ready access to the recently created outdoor Merciful Love Shrine Labyrinth. This Labyrinth was outlined with local Shrine beach stone, the same kind of material that was used in the foundation and stone chimney of the Lodge. In addition, the must to be experienced Shrine Chapel on Shrine Island, just 500 feet away from the Lodge awaits the pilgrim traveler or retreatant. Like the Jubilee Cabin, the log Lodge can handle larger groups, and it, too, is a unique structure that provides an environment for building relationships with the Good Lord and with one another. It truly is a place of holistic retreat and renewal—spiritual, physical, mental and psychological—a life-giving place to spend time at in peace.
